The SmartCell-FC (Fuel Cell) creates electricity from a feedstock gas through the use of a fuel cell. SynCells’ preferred fuel cell is the latest-generation, low-temperature solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), which can use a range of feedstocks ranging from natural gas to hydrogen and renewable fuels such as green hydrogen and ammonia. Our SOFCs are up to 65% efficient for electricity generation, with a 25% thermal energy byproduct, for a combined total efficiency of approximately 90%. SOFCs can be used across a variety of energy applications, from stationary to mobile; however, PEM fuel cells may also be leveraged where pure hydrogen sources may exist and no thermal energy is desired.
